Debate on Gain of Function Research during the Meeting on Early Events in Virus Infection

On 27 August 2014, the European Society for Virology had invited to a discussion on Gain of Function in Virology with Simon Wain-Hobson and Giorgio Palù on Brissago Island, during the Meeting on Early Events in Virus Infection in Monte Verità, Ascona, Switzerland, organized by Urs Greber and Ari Helenius.

Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences-Debate on Gain of Function Research

On 25 June 2014, the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences convened a meeting to debate on Gain of Function (GOF) and Dual Use Research. President Prof. Giorgio Palù, President of the European Society for Virology, had been invited to give a presentation and to discuss the topic in detail.

ESV Letter on Gain of Function Research in Virology

On 16 Ocotber 2013, President Prof. Giorgio Palù wrote a letter to José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, stating ESV’s position on the case involving the research performed by virologist Ron Fouchier.
